Susanna Flock **Building A.I. out of Clay**
---- Video on Screen Foyer, 1st floor Continuous ---- {{:flock_buildingaioutofclay_flock_2_web.jpg?1200nolink|}} \\ **In //Building A.I. out of Clay//, Susanna Flock juxtaposes Frankenstein's creature having an identity crisis** with hyper-realistic animations from a video game and a sequence of a lizard's still-moving dropped tail, reflecting on mortality in the context of technological change. **Footage of a lizard‘s fallen tail still in motion;** images of hyper realistic flowers from a video game animated by digital wind; and a CGI animation of Frankenstein‘s Creature having an identity crisis are condensed into another along the intersection of life-breathing electrical impulses. Building A.I. out of Clay is concerned with the topic of mortality in the context of technological change. The motif of the predetermined breaking point as a prevention and sabotage figure between life and death permeates the work. On the one hand, predetermined breaking points as safety measures delay death. On the other hand, they occur in the form of planned obsolescence as induced wear and tear and this seems to be pre-programmed in every living cell in the form of the aging process. \\ \\ ---- //**Building A.I. out of Clay is showcased as part of TecTales.** TecTales is a multidimensional screening event at the exhibition space discotec in Vienna and presents significant positions in contemporary video art and creates a dedicated and communal space where moving images can be experienced in their full length. For the STWSTx48 festival, TecTales transforms into a 48-hour non-stop cinema spectacle and is delighted to present a selection of short movies by Johanna Bruckner, Susanna Flock and S()fia Braga. The works delve into speculative, queer and gentle narratives that investigate the intersection between humans and technology. They offer diverse perspectives on non-human perception and agency, reflecting on the complexities of consciousness and existence.// **TecTales is curated by Tina Kult and presented in cooperation with discotec.** ---- //**Susanna Flock, Building A.I. out of Clay,**// AT | 2022 | 8’43 **//Susanna Flock//** explores the relationship of the body to its technologically mediated environment, focusing on internet phenomena and the examination of digital technologies within the labor economies of late capitalism.
