The MARS PATENT: What began in 1999 as a virtual exhibition space for art and theory on Mars (or was it in the World Wide Web and the imagination?) is being revisited 25 years later by the artist couple Claudia Reiche and Helene von Oldenburg. It is about recapitulating an early cyberfeminist and media-theoretical project.

Neither the 'net' nor the 'red planet' are still what they were in the last millennium. What has become of the millennium hype about 'cyberspace' with a blurred border to an elsewhere called 'outer space' - including the confused promise of a universally unbounded life? The subtle mockery of the old, cyberfeminist and participatory net project can seem just as out of place today as the mocked progress illusions have since been unveiled in rapid, nightmarish realization.

Video installations show the artists struggling with the old technology and conceptually (re)capitulating and updating the project.

On Fr, 6 Sept, 19:00, directly after the opening, there will also be an informal talk about the early cyberfeminist project.

The artists and initiators, Claudia Reiche and Helene von Oldenburg, will be present to talk about project intentions, recapitulate in various ways and report on the process.

Accompanying you through the talk: Aileen Derieg, Sarah Praschak and Mika Bankomat.
