Lethe CAN'T remember …

Mnemosyne WON'T remember …

… or is it the other way around?

The two river goddesses meet in a grotto and realize that this is now the world and their memory is falling into unplanned obsolescence: what value, what meaning do memories have under the conditions of their digital generation, formation, reformation, deformation and representation?

Are we hallucinating our past, as is claimed about AI?
Does the AI say this about itself and if so, does it also hallucinate this statement?
Do we need intense experiences to keep them in our memory, or is it enough to swipe across screens?
Can we update memories without a body and, if necessary, put them in chips, as the moronic tech bros with their eternity obsession believe?

What does all this have to do with William Gibson?

Is Europe a blood-sucking monster or a fossil that remembers the Battle of Kosovo in 1389 but not its recent atrocities?

Should memory simply go away?

Do we have any answers? Nope!
But questions …
… and we won't leave until we've forgotten every single one of them.

Let posterity write its own fucking books!
